Midsummer is an ancient tradition that was first celebrated by the pagans and continues through to this day, especially in Europe. In the UK Midsummer bonfires are still held. It is a celebration of fertility and some pants are purported to possess magical properties and are picked during Midsummer festivities. Each culture has its own tradition around the world for celebrating this day. Although a pagan holiday it was also adopted by Christians in celebrating the birth of John the Baptist. Modern rituals have less of a religious flair to them and more a celebratory on simply to honour the event. Although not everyone can build a bonfire in their back yard to celebrate Midsummer, launching flying lanterns into the sky is a great substitute.

Midsummer feasting is held throughout the evening and day from dusk until dark. Having friends over, eating food and enjoying one another’s company, having a few drinks and celebrating the day is the perfect way to celebrate this event.
